STORYLINE
The two young sons of a Benfica supporter who was beaten by a police officer outside a match last week, helped the team celebrate its league title in Lisbon on Saturday.
The boys were allowed onto the pitch at Estadio de Luz when Benfica lifted the trophy for its 34th league title in front of more than 60,000 supporters.
The club's president, Luis Vieira, handed the trophy to the children, who then passed it on to team captain Luisao.
The family were also given VIP seats for the match - from where they watched Benfica beat Maritimo 4-1 in the last match of the season.
Benfica supporter Jose Magalhaes was beaten by a policeman last Sunday outside a Guimaraes stadium.
Magalhaes' sons, aged 9 and 13, witnessed the violence, but were not hurt.
Video of the officer striking Magalhaes with a truncheon - and also punching Magalhaes' 66-year-old father - provoked a storm of outrage in Portugal.
The police, the public prosecutor and the government have all opened investigations into the officer's conduct.
