I appeal to my brothers, the authorities of the Russian Federation, that the Black Sea Initiative may be restored and grain may be transported safely.”

STORYLINE:
Pope Francis on Sunday called on Russia to restore grain shipments from Ukraine through the Black Sea.

During his Sunday prayers, Francis said the destruction of the grain deal “is a great offense against God, because grain is His gift to feed humanity."

Francis also asked the faithful to pray with him ahead of his five-day trip to Portugal for the 38th World Youth Day.

Francis will leave on 2 August for Lisbon and will also travel to Fatima, the site of a popular shrine to the Virgin Mary.

Ahead of the third anniversary of the Beirut explosion, Francis prayed for the victims and their families.

To mark the UN World Day Against Trafficking, Francis prayed for all those "who work to fight against trafficking.”
