STORYLINE:
The Portuguese people will be casting their ballots on Sunday for an early general election.

The new vote is taking place after Socialist leader António Costa resigned as prime minister amid last November’s corruption investigation. He hasn’t been accused of any crime.

But corruption is only one of the many concerns that are leading the Portuguese ahead of the crucial vote. An economy still impacted by inflation, a rising housing crisis, challenged public services such as education and healthcare are some of the key issues that serve as backdrop for an election that marks almost 50 years of democracy in the country.
