Her story reminds us that the lies of white supremacy, patriarchy, and colonized religion were crafted to suppress the truth. Before European invaders, women and men often stood as equals, partners in leadership, survival, and society. The myth that women are made from ribs of men or born to submit is a colonizer’s tool to strip women of their agency and rewrite the balance of partnership that once defined many societies but not all.
This is why I celebrate strong, visionary women leaders like Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, President of Mexico. Her leadership proves that women can and should shatter the mediocre myths perpetuated by white patriarchy, which claims dominance without merit. Nzinga’s legacy and leaders like Sheinbaum remind us that true power is about partnership, integrity, and the courage to resist oppression in every form.
