The story behind the song, the Girl From Ipanema. Sang by husband and wife, Astrud Gilberto and Joao Gilberto. It depicts how a shy, young, female singer was manipulated by a powerful, male-dominated music industry in the 1960s. Due to the mistreatment she received, she is left as a broken woman now many decades later. The #girlfromipanema is one of the top most recorded songs of all time yet the woman singing it, was paid only a measly $120 for a musician’s night work and was referred to as “just a housewife” while others in the recording got rich and bought a million dollar house for themself.
