The poem A Musical instrument pictures the myth of Pan, the God of rustic beauty, hunting and wine who is partly a goat and partly a man. He loved Syrinx but she rejected his love and turned to a reed to escape from the eyes of Pan. The poem reveals male dominance and the struggle of women. Pan finally finds the reed, cut it and made holes and made a musical instrument. It also shows sexual tone.
