(27 May 2020) Portugal is experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures going up to 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) in Lisbon and up to 35 degrees (95 degrees Fahrenheit) in inland regions.
Due to the unexpected high temperatures, the Portuguese meteorological service issued a yellow alert _ second on a scale from the lowest green to the highest red_ for six regions across the mainland, including the capital.
The heatwave comes as the country is on its second phase of reopening following a coronavirus lockdown, with some costumers beginning to enjoy the open air terraces of bars and restaurants in squares and beaches
Although officially the beach season only begins on the 6th June with special recommendations due to the pandemic, people are not barred from going to beaches.
Portugal has 31, 007 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1,342 deaths according to figures from the Johns Hopkins University.
