The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has been a subject of scrutiny by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over the years. In 2008, following the conviction of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) for funneling millions of dollars to Hamas—a designated terrorist organization—the FBI discontinued its formal relationship with CAIR. This decision was based on evidence presented during the trial that linked CAIR leaders to Hamas, leading to CAIR being named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the case.
