Kalash is a tribal minority community living in the Hindu Kush mountain range in the Chitral district of the present Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. According to some sources, Kalashas shifted to Chitral from Afghanistan in the 2nd century CE.
Once powerful and widespread, the Kalash civilization numbered tens of thousands of people, yet only about 3,500 Kalash people now remain due to serious threats of natural adversities and adaptation of other religions.
Sayed Gul Kalash, Archaeologist and Activist, and a member of the indigenous community herself works to preserve the endangered Kalash culture and language in a remote region of Pakistan.
